Development Workshop France receives the UNDP 'Housing and Urban Development South-South Transfer Award - Special Mention'
UN-HABITAT, the Building and Social Housing Foundation (BSHF) and the UNDP Special Unit for South-South Cooperation have announced the winners of the Housing and Urban Development South-South Transfer Award, a special joint initiative which seeks to recognise housing and urban development practices that have been successfully transferred to other countries in the global South.
The awards were presented on 25th November 2010 as part of the activities of the Global

DWF received the World Habitat Award in 1998 for its work in the Sahel countries of West Africa, developing and promoting "woodless construction" building techniques. Ongoing work currently includes assisting women potters (photo).

For "Sustainable implementation of disaster risk reduction at community level" based on DW's 20 years of work on typhoon resistant housing in Vietnam
The United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Reduction recognises excellence in reducing disaster risk for a safer more sustainable world.
John Norton received the Sasakawa Award 2009 Certificate of Distinction on behalf of DW in Geneva on 16th June 2009 during the Second Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.
2008 World Habitat Award for the "Preventing Typhoon Damage to Housing, Central Viet Nam"
In 2008, DWF received a second World Habitat Award for its work developing and promoting "ten key points" of cyclone resistant building. Since then these have been applied not only in Indonesia, but more recently in Myamnar as part of a collaboration with Save the Children.
