Component Adaptions
Over several years DW has developed various small components that are used in strengthening parts of existing buildings - for example, these brackets, shown above, are for tying together different elements of the roof frame. Such components are already produced locally for the DW project.
Another example is the re-introduction of the small hole that was traditionally made in the underside of ceramic roof tiles, to enable these to be easily tied down.
For the Dipecho project, DW has already tested support for the establishment of small autonomous production units in the province which can then supply components to the local markets, and prototypes were used extensively on project buildings in 2004. Promotion and marketing of small building components will continue in 2005/06.

Having such components available locally makes it easier for people to strengthen their houses outside the project context.
