DW experience
DW has a 25 year experience working on disaster prevention and preparedness.
Work related to earthquakes and earthquake vulnerability reduction began in Iran in 1977, and included assessments of earthquake vulnerability and providing training to rural builders. Similar projects have continued with training projects in Guinea (1984/5), Northern Pakistan (1989-90) and Afghanistan (1998).
Experience related to typhoons and flooding includes assessment with the Grameen Bank on credit for house strengthening in Bangladesh and flood developing mitigation strategies for UNCHS in Bangladesh including assessments of different community support approaches, and DW has been working on typhoon and flood related preparedness projects in Viet Nam since 1989.
Since the 1970’s DW has regularly contributed case study material to
conferences and publications on the subject of vulnerability and preparedness
and on strategy development in response to these issues.
